This cherry pie recipe is a sweet, gooey dessert that is made with only 5 ingredients! It’s different from many standard tart or sour cherry pies and has more of a sweet smooth flavor. Using a homemade pie crust, this recipe creates a stunning sweet and flavorful cherry pie.
This is one dessert I plan on having on my Thanksgiving table this year. Ever since trying this apple pie recipe, I’m hooked on making the best, tastiest pies and feeding them to my family. This cherry pie was VERY well received and it’s going on my list of favorite easy desserts!
Ingredients
- Organic sweet dark cherries
- Unbleached and organic all purpose flours
- Organic cane sugar
- All natural almond extract
- Pie crust of your choice! I use this homemade pie crust recipe.
Making the Cherry Pie
To make this cherry pie, I start with my friend Brooke’s homemade pie crust recipe. You can find that recipe and how to make it here! After the dough has been prepared, start by splitting it in half, flouring a surface, and rolling out one half to line the pie dish. Preheat the oven to 425 and place a medium sized pan on the stove over medium heat. Place the cherries, sugar, flour, and almond extract into the pan and mix thoroughly. Let the cherry mix simmer and mix occasionally.
After 10-12 minutes, when the cherry mixture has thickened, let it cool for 10 minutes and pour into the pie dish. Roll out the second half of the dough and place it over the top of the pie. Slice 5-6 small slits in the top of the pie to allow for air flow. You can also make an “x” shaped slice in the center which will help when cooking (and it looks pretty cool when baked!).
Place the pie in the oven on 425 for 15 minutes and then lower the heat to 350 and bake for another 30 minutes. When the top layer of the pie crust begins to brown and looks flaky, take the pie out of the oven and let it cool. Then serve and enjoy! (I prefer to serve the pie slightly warm, but it tastes great warm or cold!).
