Mug cakes are the best dessert after long, tiring days when you need something sweet, but don’t have a lot of time. They’re easy to make, perfectly sized, and if you have the right recipe, incredibly tasty! My favorite kind happens to be a chocolate mug cake filled with melted chocolate chips. Specifically this 5 minute mug cake! I love to top them with almond milk and almond butter or a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. So as a lover of easy recipes, desserts, and chocolate, this is the recipe of my dreams!
Eating this mug cake is like biting into a freshly baked cake with melted chocolate inside. It’s perfectly moist and has the softest, richest texture. In the past, I’ve found that mug cakes can be spongey and have a dry, unappealing texture. It’s hard to make a microwavable cake that has the right consistency and flavors. But after much trial and error, I’ve found the solution! And here we have a rich, chocolatey mug cake that can be made in under 5 minutes!
Ingredients
- Unbleached and organic all purpose flour
- Organic cacao powder
- Organic cane sugar
- Natural maple syrup
- Organic milk
- Organic butter
- Vanilla
- Baking soda
- Mini chocolate chips
Making the Mug Cake
Making the chocolate mug cake is easy. But of course you already know that…it’s kind of the whole point! Here’s the process in four easy steps:
- Mix together the flour, cacao powder, and baking soda.
- Mix in the rest of the ingredients minus the chocolate chips.
- Add in the chocolate chips and mix once more.
- Microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds, then enjoy!
Some tips for making the mug cake: Mixing the dry ingredients first helps with the way the mug cake cooks. If you do mix all ingredients at once it will still taste great, but it won’t cook as well. You can add in chocolate chips before microwaving or add them in after if you prefer to have them melted on top!
Lastly, microwave power ranges and the mug cake can take anywhere from 1-2 minutes. If you’re microwave tends to cook things very quickly, I would recommend putting it in for 1 minute and checking to make sure it isn’t over cooking. The mug cake will be done when it has a nice solidified surface, but isn’t too hard/smells burnt. You will be able to tell, trust me!
