Making the Baked Cinnamon Donuts
If you’ve never made baked donuts, you’ll love just how easy they are to make-from start to finish! I use two donut pans that I ordered from amazon. They’re relatively cheap and having donut pans around has made baking a lot more fun.
To make these donuts, start preheating the oven to 375 and greasing the donut pans well. Then mash the banana and melt 4 tablespoons of butter (comes out to about 1/3 of a cup). In a large bowl, mix together the banana, maple syrup, and sugar. Then stir in the melted butter and the milk. You want to make sure the milk is not very cold because it will cause the butter to clump together. Mix the ingredients well and add the flour, sea salt, cinnamon, and baking soda on top. Stir from top to bottom combining all ingredients until you have a smooth batter.
Pour the batter into the donut holes until each is filled about 3/4 of the way. This recipe makes 12 small-medium sized donuts but can make about 8 larger donuts if you fill the holes almost all the way. I find the 12 donut servings work best and you will avoid overflowing or donuts that are uneven on the top. Next, bake the donuts in the oven for 12-14 minutes or until a toothpick comes out dry. Let the donuts cool entirely.
Making the Brown Sugar Icing
The last step is to make the brown sugar icing. This is completely optional, but if you’re looking for a more sugary treat, I highly recommend adding it! Start by melting the butter and sugar in a pan on the stove over low heat. When runny and well combined, add in the cinnamon and stir well. Then take the donuts and dip them into the icing mix. Place the cinnamon donuts on a sheet of parchment paper or a cookie rack and let them dry then enjoy!
