Simple sulfite free pizza dough for any time!
Homemade pizza dough is surprisingly easy to make and debatably tastes better than a lot of store bought brands. Making your own dough at home is a great way to ensure you are using high quality ingredients without preservatives and unnecessary additives. Not only does homemade dough give you the knowledge of what’s going into your food, it’s also a delightfully tasty option for a surplus of recipes!
Ingredient list
- Organic and unbleached all purpose flour – picking the right flour is the first step to having a delicious sulfite free pizza dough. Using an organic and unbleached brand ensures that you won’t have chemical additives from the bleaching process or enriched flours added into the mix.
- Warm water – when making homemade breads or doughs it’s important to remember to heat the water to a warm temperature before mixing it with the yeast. This warm water activates the yeast and assists in the rising process.
- Active dry yeast – yeast can be confusing to purchase because there are many different types. Active dry yeast is best for beginners since it’s easy to use and predictable in how it works. It has a long shelf life and I love how it can come in small packets pre-measured.
- Olive oil – olive oil helps make the dough soft and is a healthy fat.
- Organic sugar – the sugar in pizza dough assists with yeast activation and can add to the browning of crust when baking. It also allows for moisture retention and can create a chewier texture when cooked. This is one ingredient you can leave out if you’d like, but I’d recommend using it!
- Sea salt – can’t go wrong with a bit of sea salt for flavor!
Topping Talk
In my opinion, homemade pizza is the best dinner option simply because the topping options are endless! When you’re aiming for a sulfite-free pizza, it’s best to keep in mind what works for you. If you’re someone who is sensitive to cheese (like me) try to keep the cheese light or opt for a cheese-less pizza. For a healthier, more protein packed dinner add in some grilled chicken, chicken sausage or even beef!
Here are a few of my absolute favorites for my homemade sulfite free pizza recipes:
- Whole Foods 365 brand organic tomato basil sauce
- Organic, vinegar-free fresh mozzarella – you can find this at trader joes or local organic shops.
- Organic 365 brand mozzarella
- Chicken sausage – Bilinski’s organic brand, a vinegar free type
- Fresh arugula!!
- Organic chopped bell peppers
- Grass fed ground beef
- Spices – basil, italian spice mix, oregano, garlic, and black pepper!
No matter what topping you put on your pizza, you’re going to love the no-rise sulfite free pizza dough recipe!
