This homemade raspberry jam is the sweetest topping to breakfasts, breads, and desserts. The tangy, textured raspberries cook down to a thick and creamy jam that is naturally sweetened with honey. Made from 3 ingredients and fully prepared in under 15 minutes, this is a recipe you’ll want to make time and time again.
Jams & jellies are one type of food that is nearly impossible to find without sulfites. Most contain pectin or citric acid to maintain freshness and prevent bacteria growth. With a sulfite allergy, store bought jam just isn’t safe to eat. And since I grew up loving jelly and strawberry jam, I spent time looking into how difficult it would be to make my own. Every recipe said it was so simple and so easy, but it took trying to make homemade jam myself to realize just how simple and easy it is!
Ingredients
There are 3 ingredients in this raspberry jam. And another great thing about this recipe is that you can modify any ingredient to meet dietary restrictions or flavor preferences! Here are the original ingredients along with some substitutes:
- Organic raspberries: Other delicious fruits that would work in this recipe are strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries.
- All natural honey: Honey in this recipe can be substituted for maple syrup to make it vegan. If you are looking for a jam with lower sugar, leave the honey out and squeeze in a bit of fresh lemon juice!
- Organic chia seeds: Chia seeds help the jam thicken and have great nutritional value. If you are not able to eat chia seeds, you can make the jam without them, it just might not thicken up as easily. Simply cook for a bit longer and add more raspberries into the recipe.
Making the Raspberry Jam
Homemade jam is very easy to make and highly customizable. It takes about 15 minutes to prepare and is ready to serve when cool. To make, add the raspberries to a small to medium size saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Let the raspberries come to a slow simmer/low boil. This should take 4-5 minutes, but will take slightly longer if the raspberries are frozen. Add in the chia seeds and honey and mix well. Continue to stir occasionally for another 7-8 minutes until the jam thickens. When thick, remove from the heat and let it cool. Then serve and enjoy!
Best Ways to Serve:
This jam is a delicious topping to countless breakfasts and desserts! My personal favorite is on top of a warm piece of toast with almond butter. It’s also a perfect topping for oatmeal bowls and yogurt bowls. This jam is incredibly tasty baked into oatmeal bars, protein bars, and baked oatmeal. And lastly, I love to enjoy it on homemade raspberry thumbprint cookies!
