Attention All Chocolate Lovers!
As a big fan of all things chocolate, I’m always looking for safe, chocolatey treats at the grocery store or online. More specifically, I look for chocolate that has other ingredients like sea salt or almonds and isn’t plain. This is because I’m a lover of textured, crunchy chocolate that has a tasty blend of flavors. Since chocolate and candy are highly processed, it’s difficult to find safe options in stores.
Some brands like Hu have safe flavored chocolate, but sometimes they can be a bit pricey. With chocolate being my favorite post-lunch, post-dinner, and all around snack, I love to make homemade chocolate sweets in a bigger batch. This way I can save a bit more and also make enough to store in the freezer for a long time.
In most cases, when there’s a food, snack, or drink that I can’t find without preservatives, I make my own option! This chocolate almond bark was a very simple recipe to make and it tastes incredible. The sea salted almonds go so well with chocolate and the bark can be broken into any size you prefer! It’s a recipe I plan to always keep in the freezer for whenever I need a good chocolatey treat.
Ingredients
- Organic semi-sweet chocolate: you can use dark chocolate, white chocolate, or any other chocolate you prefer to have!
- Sea salted almonds: I buy sulfite-free sea salted almonds from Whole Foods, but couldn’t find a link. The ingredients are almonds, expeller pressed sunflower oil, and sea salt. You can also buy regular almonds and add sea salt into the chocolate and almond mix!
- Organic unrefined coconut oil: If you cannot have coconut oil or don’t want to have it in your recipe, you can melt the chocolate without it! You can also use 1/2 tbsp organic butter or 1 tsp of a safe oil.
Making the Chocolate Almond Bark
My first goal for creating recipes is to keep things nice and easy. There’s nothing like being able to throw together a chocolate snack/treat/dessert in under 5 minutes. Since this recipe only calls for 3 ingredients and doesn’t need to be baked, I’d say my goal was achieved!
All you need to do for this recipe is microwave the chocolate and coconut oil in a bowl for 1 minute. Take out the chocolate and stir with a spoon. If the chocolate is not entirely melted, microwave it again for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Then place the almonds in a Ziploc bag and crush them into pieces using a jar or rolling pin. I find it works best using the bottom of a glass jar.
Next, stir the almonds into the melted chocolate and mix until well combined. If the almonds were not salted, mix in 1/2 tsp sea salt. Then spread the mix onto a piece of parchment paper. There’s no rule about how thin the chocolate should be spread on the parchment paper and the bark will not need to be in a perfect circle or square. When done, place the bark into the freezer for at least 20 minutes. After this time, the chocolate almond bark should be ready to break apart and enjoy!
