A Perfect “New York Style” Crumb Cake
My mom has done it again! This delicious crumb cake recipe is yet another creation by the best sulfite free baker I know. My mom is always testing new sulfite free meals and desserts and has come up with quite the list of delicious options. While it can be difficult to navigate life with a sulfite allergy and it’s even harder when you aren’t home with your own “safe” food options. But when your family and friends know what ingredients/recipes work best for you, trust me…they’ll love to have food prepared for your visits! Best of all, this is probably the most “normal” dessert I’ve had since my diagnosis. And for my sulfite sensitive people you know how good that makes you feel.
This is a soft, buttery, and deliciously dense crumb cake. The sweet, sugary flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture is honestly unbelievable. With a generous amount of cinnamon crumble sitting atop the tastiest vanilla base, this cake irresistible. The thick layers and chunky crumbles really give it that “New York Style” feel. Let’s just say it’s everything you didn’t know you needed and more!

Tips for the Sulfite Free Crumb Cake
If you’re looking to make this crumb cake sulfite free it’s best to ensure the ingredients used are either organic and/or free from possible preservatives. Common ingredients in regular crumb cake recipes can include brown sugar, eggs, and confectioner’s sugar. Easy substitutes include a maple syrup and cane sugar mix (replaces brown sugar), greek yogurt, and cinnamon topping. Using organic and unbleached flour can reduce the possible sulfites in “enriched” flours and organic cane sugar is always a better option to use than regular sugar. Finally, I always look to find a greek yogurt without pectin, butter without natural flavor, and sea salt as opposed to iodized salt.
